On the road to Corsica

Today was a day of travel to Corsica via train and ferry. We got up and finished packing and decided to get some last minute sightseeing done before heading to the metro.  We checked out St. Germain de Pres Cathedral across the street from our flat.  It is the oldest Cathedral in Paris. After that we did a little shopping and then back to the flat for our bags and off to Gare Lyon.   We had a minor panic looking for track "I" but were saved by a friendly Brit who noticed our confused look and pointed us in the right direction.
The train ride was uneventful (thankfully).  We sat across from a couple of amusing French ladies who were quite impressed with Sherrie's knitting project. I had a great little nap and tried to take a few pictures of the French countryside.
Toulon was quite beautiful and we easily found our way down to the port where our ferry was supposed to be. The lack of a boat was a little suspect but we had a couple of hours before boarding so we didn't get particularly concerned. After a wonderful meal at a waterfront restaurant we walked back to the ferry landing to a very quiet and deserted sight. We managed to get the attention of of some workers who told us we needed to go to a different port. By this time it is safe to say our level of concern had increased significantly.  Just when it was looking like our odds of making our ferry were nearing zero,  along came a native Corsican with a micro cargo "truck" who also needed to go to the new port.  He graciously volunteered to take us and the three of us piled into the cab and took off, introducing ourselves to Maxim, our new hero, along the way.  After a rushed 15 kilometers through dark and windy roads we arrived at the correct terminal. It was only after settling into our room on the boat that I checked my email and saw the urgent email notifying me the the Tall Ship festival that had just finished had caused the ferry to move to a different terminal.

We had a very calm overnight journey and viola we were in Corsica!
