Sardinia: Day 3 and 4

Day 3 was a fairly relaxing one.  We slept in a bit and then let the rain talk us into sleeping in a bit more. Eventually we got motivated and headed out to see a few sights in the local area. Our initial stop was to visit a pair of archeological attractions that date back to 1500 BC.  The first site was a tomb called Coddii Ecchju (one of many sites called a Giant's Tomb) and is identified by a tall stone at its front with a small doorway carved out of the bottom of the stone.  The second site was called Nuraghe di Albucciu and consisted of a set of circular stone buildings that surround a central tower.  This site was still being excavated and we could almost envision Alicia, who just graduated with her degree in archeology, working away uncovering the past.
After leaving the land of tombs and ancient sites we headed on a little road trip to check out the towns and beaches around Porto Cervo.  This is definitely one of the ritzy parts of the island and we estimated the cost of the homes tucked into the hillside and along the waterfront as we passed by the solid olivewood(?) gates. A peek into how the other half lives. We managed to find the beach called Spiaggia del Principe just before sunset and got the funniest video of a young wild boar playing with a soccer ball in a pond...soon to be posted on YouTube.  The beach was beautiful and there were a couple of amazing islands off the coast that were like giant boulders rising from the sea. We ended the day with a nice drive home passing several scenic towns along the way. Fresh ravioli and green salad at home rounded out the evening.
Day 4 was a  boat tour of the Arcipelago di La Maddalena.  We met the boat at the porto in Cannigione at 9am with about a dozen other tourists.  It was a stunning day with blue skies and calm waters. The tour started by taking us to the main town on Maddalena Island where we walked around for an hour or so and the re-boarded the boat. Next we stopped at a stunning beach on Islo Spargi where we hiked around a bit and swam in gorgeous blue green waters. After swimming, we were treated to a simple but tasty pasta lunch.  The remainder of the tour consisted of exploring, a few very scenic spots between the islands of the archipelago and then motoring back to port by 5pm. It always seems like taking a chance when going on these guided tours, but this one was quite nice and we were glad to get out to see the islands.
